Upcoming GPS/GIS Training – June 13th
9:00am to Noon
DOC GIS Division will be hosting a GPS/GIS training in the
DOC Conference room. Training will include GeoXT and GeoExplorer
3 Tutorial, Differential Correction, & Overlay of GPS
data onto GIS data from the databank. Seats are limited so
if anyone is interested please contact Troy.
Tutuila Hazards Assessment Tool (T-HAT) Demonstration
This ArcIMS Tool was created by NOAA Coastal Services Center
for assessing natural hazard areas on island. The T-HAT is
now up and running on the DOC Network and it is being utilized
by ASCMP CRO’s and included in site visit reports. There
is also a Samoan version to the T-HAT, which is approx. 60%
complete.
Meta-Data Server Demonstration
The Meta-Data server is a search tool that can be used to
search all meta data on the GIS databank. It also links to
the FGDC network. Troy Curry has been able to get it running
on the DOC Network but is still working out the kinks so that
it may be accessed from outside the DOC Network. 168 Databank
records are available for query on the metadata server and
it is query based on Keyword.
Executive Order #006
The Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) was recently signed
by the Governor as an Executive Order.
Section 312 Question & Answer Session
Questions were posed by the 312 Evaluation Team to the User
Group if there were any needs by the various agencies regarding
their work with the ASCZM program and if they saw any interest
from the Community regarding GIS.
Various user group members stated that Training is always
needed. Some training identified included GPS, various GIS
Software, etc. Community interest regarding GIS has come mainly
from the Business community namely Banks.
The User Group was informed by the Evaluation Team that if
they had any other issues to email them directly and a draft
report would be provided for all agencies for their review.
