Multi-beam survey discussion

Joyce Miller (NOAA-CRED), Rusty Brainard (NOAA-CRED), and Bruce Applegate (UH) briefed the user group about their upcoming research using the multi-beam sensor for mapping the sea floor and conducting a fisheries inventory/survey. The multi-beam sensor will provide many products such as a sonar grid, characterization of the sea floor, and sea floor roughness. There will also be additional products available such as diver observations and underwater photography. They expect to have many GIS layers through the analysis of the multi-beam sensor data. The time frame for the availability of the data is 1-2 years. They wanted to meet with the user group to generate interest in the project and look for local agencies and counterparts to aid in the capture, analysis, and future planning and implementation of research conducted by NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center.

Quickbird update

Lisa Fischer has requested and received the GCP's for American Samoa. The GCP's will be used for the orthorectification of the quickbird imagery once it is acquired.

Agency updates

Vicky Gerberich (Environmental Planner) conducted an environmental impact assessment post Cyclone Heta. She led several DOC staff members in the collection of GPS data acquisition for landslides, flooding, and wind damage. The collection of field data included GPS points and digital camera photography. The points and photos are currently being processed and will be available once the photos are hyperlinked.

Troy announced that the website for the user group is being updated. He requested that any agency that would like to update their project description off of the member's webpage can email him the information in Word document or HTML form.
